The Three Muses
The three main female characters of the play are Angelica Schuyler (played by Renée Elise Goldsberry), Eliza Shuyler (played by Phillipa Soo) and Maria Reynolds (played by Jasmine Cephas Jones) and these three character can be perfectly put into three female stereotypes: The Muse, The Wife and The Whore.
The Muse is a creative and inspirational figure, often portrayed as an ethereal being that influences the artist or creator. Angelica Schuyler perfectly fits this role, as she is a highly creative and free-spirited woman who encourages and inspires both Alexander Hamilton and her sister Eliza.
The Wife is the supportive and faithful partner, standing by her man through thick and thin. Eliza Shuyler is the epitome of the loyal wife, standing by Hamilton’s side even when he has an affair with Maria Reynolds.
The Whore is the sexualized and often manipulating woman, using her body and sexuality to get what she wants. Maria Reynolds is the perfect example of the Whore, as she uses her sexuality to lure Hamilton into an affair and then tries to blackmail him with the information.
While these are just stereotypes
