Tom is understandably upset about the affair between Gatsby and Daisy. He confrontes Gatsby about it, and Gatsby doesn’t deny it. This causes a strain on the already tenuous relationship between the two men. Things come to a head on the trip to New York, when Gatsby and Daisy are caught together in a compromising position. This leads to a fight between Gatsby and Tom, which Gatsby wins.
